Spanish Fork Airport Sees New and Exciting Business Park Development Project Unfold

The Patey Aviation Business Park

April 2024

Last month, land developers broke ground on a new, innovative aviation business park at the Spanish Fork Airport. “The Patey Aviation Business Park,” as outlined in a recent press release, “will benefit both the airport and those that depend upon the airport, such as pilots and aviation enthusiasts.” The project launches with an initial investment of 60 million dollars. This is, of course, only for the project’s first phase. Once complete, the Patey Aviation Business Park will have a realized total cost of over 100 million dollars.

Stimulate the Local Economy

As a privately funded venture, this new Utah air park will greatly benefit the people of the greater Spanish Fork area. This is because the airport’s long-term success and profitability will translate into more tax receipts. The project will also be expected to stimulate the local economy by bringing both skilled and unskilled job opportunities to the region. New airport developments are one of the best ways to encourage and spark local economic growth.

Great Flexibility in Hangar Availability

This new and well-designed development at the airport will include well over 60 aircraft hangars. There will likely be a hangar solution for most budgets, as these protective aircraft structures will range in price from around $350,000 to more than 3.5 million dollars. Private pilots and small businesses with private jets and the like will have their aircraft storage needs met thanks to greater flexibility in hangar space availability.

Both Reciprocating and Jet-Powered Aircraft

These newly designed and well-built aircraft hangar facilities will vary in size from as small as 2,200 square feet to more massive spaces coming in at upwards of 21,000 square feet. This means a wide array of reciprocating and jet-powered aircraft can easily be accommodated. In addition, the new hangars will include options for private and common shared suites once completed. This will greatly benefit those looking to collaborate and connect with others in aviation-related businesses.

A Restored Douglas C-54 Aircraft

This new project is equally impressive because it will feature a public restaurant. The new dining facility will be built to offer clear and direct views of aircraft taking off and landing at the Spanish Fork Airport. The park will include walking paths along with a static aircraft display of a restored Douglas C-54 aircraft from days past. This is the airplane that Gail Halvorsen, the famous Candy Bomber, piloted back in the day.

An Excellent View of The Surrounding Mountains

The entire project, strategically situated on the airport grounds, will not only offer visitors great views of arriving and departing aircraft but also of the surrounding mountains. The new airpark will feature a state-of-the-art fueling station and aircraft maintenance facilities and services. The development project will be comprised of two well-defined phases.

The Fourth-Busiest General Aviation Airport by Volume

The first phase will include the installation of 66 aircraft hangars and is slated to be completed in less than 18 months. Planning for the project’s second phase is also well underway and will begin immediately following the first phase’s completion. The Spanish Fork Airport is the fourth-busiest general aviation airport by volume in Utah, with more than 90,000 annual flight operations, over 300 aircraft based on site, and 133 hangars already occupying the airport grounds.
