KSDL RUNWAY CLOSURE TO BEGIN JULY 6

The Scottsdale Airport (SDL) will be closed to fixed-wing operations beginning on July 6 for an estimated 45 days as the airport begins the first phase of the Runway Rehabilitation Project. This is the first major rehabilitation for the single runway (3-21) since it was constructed in 1967. The $12 million project has been largely funded by an $11 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration. The remaining costs have been covered by the city and the Arizona Department of Transportation.

In 2020, SDL experienced more than 195,800 operations to further solidify the airport’s role as one of the nation’s busiest single-runway general aviation airports. The airport has scheduled the project during its typically slowest time of the year and expects to return to normal runway operations by the time activity increases this September. The runway project will only target rehabilitation of the runway and will not include an increase in runway size or weight capacity.
