WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY TO OFFER PILOT TRAINING PROGRAM

Beginning in August 2021, the WSU Campus of Applied Sciences and Technology (WSU Tech) will offer its first collegiate-level professional pilot program in the Wichita area. The two-year Part 141 training program will accommodate up to 15 students per year and provide an Associates of Applied Science in Professional Pilot. It will include comprehensive career training in all areas of aviation – private and business aviation, commercial airlines, cargo, government organizations, and flight training. The program will require a minimum of 235 hours in the Cessna 172 Skyhawk, the most widely used training platform in the industry and provided by Wichita-based Textron Aviation as part of its Top Hawk program. Students completing the program will be eligible for five FAA ratings: Private, Instrument, Commercial, Multiengine, and Certified Flight Instructor.

For many years WSU Tech has provided education and training in all other areas of aviation and aerospace including design, manufacturing, production, maintenance, according to WSU Tech president, Dr. Sheree Utash, who continued, “. . . but a flight program now completes the aviation ecosystem in the Air Capital of the World.”
