TAXIWAY REHABILITATION COMPLETED AT VAN NUYS AIRPORT

The rehabilitation of Taxiway A has been completed at Van Nuys Airport (KVNY) as the second of two pavement improvement projects. Taxiway B improvements were previously finished last year after 14 months of work. The Taxiway A project cost $35.5 million and was fully executed after 15 months. Two airport improvement grants provided federal funding for 90 percent of both taxiway projects. KVNY is billed as one of the world’s busiest general aviation airports and the taxiway projects were implemented to help improve taxiway safety and to standardize design in accordance with the FAA.

The life of the taxiway pavement on Taxiway A has been extended by 20 years as a result of the recent construction. The 8,000-foot taxiway rehabilitation faced 12 phases of development including full-depth asphalt reconstruction, installation of LED lighting, improvement of signage and pavement marking, grading and drainage upgrades, and enhancements to taxiway geometry. Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) managed both taxiway projects during the past four years.
