Colorado Airport Digs New Hangar Complex, Plans 2nd FBO
A new private hangar complex will rise at Northern Colorado Regional (FNL), after Water Valley Land Co. and the Business Aviation Group (BAG) broke ground on the first phase of its planned Discovery Air, an eventual 29.5-acre development at the Fort Collins gateway.
Wheels Up Acquires Mountain Aviation
Wheels Up quadrupled its Citation X fleet with the acquisition of Mountain Aviation, a Denver, Colorado-based air charter and MRO provider. The acquisition adds 59 aircraft, bringing the Wheels Up fleet to 335 King Airs and Citations flown by more than 1,000 pilots. Mountain will continue to operate under its own brand and serve existing customers.
NBAA Lauds IRS Rule Exempting Managed Aircraft From Federal Excise Tax
The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) is praising the issuance of a pre-publication final rule by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service that exempts owners conducting flights on their own aircraft under FAR Part 91 or 135 with a management company's assistance from paying the 7.5% federal excise tax for commercial flights.
Man Lives at O'Hare for Three Months
An Orange County, CA, man lived for three months at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport before being detected. Aditya Singh was arrested and charged with impersonation in a restricted area and theft of less than $500. The state attorney’s office said Mr. Singh was afraid to go home because of Covid-19.
Missoula Provides $2 Million Loan to Neptune Aviation
The Missoula County Airport Authority approved a $2 million state loan for Neptune Aviation to fund the purchase of two aircraft hangars and create 120 new jobs. Neptune is a national aerial firefighting company, and the loan originated from the Montana Board of Investment's Infrastructure Loan program.

$4.63B Offer Accepted By Signature Aviation Board
Signature Aviation, the UK-based private jet base operator, agreed to a $4.63 billion buyout offer from Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP). However, other offers would still be considered. Signature Aviation operates Signature Flight Support, the world's largest FBO network with bases in most major cities.
Signature Moves Into New Baton Rouge FBO Complex
Signature Flight Support has moved into a newly-renovated terminal and hangar facility at Baton Rouge Metropolitan/Ryan Field (BTR), Louisiana. The move was just next door to the new FBO consisting of a 15,000 SF hangar (50% larger), and an adjoining 5,000 SF terminal that includes a pilot lounge, showers, offices, and a 12-person conference room.
Bizjet Deliveries To Rise Marginally in 2021
The 10th Biannual Jeffries Equity Research business jet survey and report is calling for 3.7% growth in new jet deliveries this year. This is down from its 6% growth projected in mid-2020. Yet, in the global survey of 102 business jet brokers the sentiment index climbed 1.7 points to 6.6 on a scale of 10, and noted a continued elevated interest in business jet flying.
Pittsburgh Airport Moves Into Real Estate Development
Pittsburgh International Airport announced it will develop a manufacturing hub on land near the terminal. The first phase of the $1 billion expansion and modernization plan includes a campus for companies that use 3-D printing in manufacturing. Arencibia, which provides and recycles gases used in the process, has signed as an anchor tenant.
Las Cruces International Plans Update
The Las Cruces, NM, City Council approved a plan to transform and beautify the airport in anticipation of resuming commercial passenger service. The plan includes new infrastructure, native vegetation, desert terrain, street redesign, and new artwork.
