YEAGER AIRPORT RECEIVES FAA GRANT MONEY FOR EIS

The Central West Virginia Regional Airport Authority received $5.6 million in grant money from the FAA to proceed with an environmental impact study (EIS) for a runway safety project at Yeager Airport. The project includes the development of a runway safety area on either end of Runway 5-23 as well as a completed runway length of 7,000 feet. An EIS will allow the project to advance while enabling an additional 50 to 60 acres of developable land at the airport.

The new runway safety area is proposed to be 1,000-feet long by 500-feet wide and the resulting runway shift will require up to 20 million cubic yards of fill to address the change. The added acreage could be utilized for hangars, aircraft parking, or industrial parks. The airport anticipates the project will produce an economic impact of $300 million along with the creation of construction jobs. According to a study produced by the West Virginia Aeronautics Commissions, the Yeager Airport supplies around 3,000 jobs along with a $225 million economic impact within West Virginia.
