KHNL OPENS NEW CONRAC
The Hawaii Department of Transportation has opened the new Consolidated Rent-A-Car (Conrac) facility at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL). Construction of the $377 million project began in 2016 and funding came entirely from a daily customer facility charge of $4.50 for all rental cars. The HNL Conrac is part of the state’s $2.6 billion airport modernization program and HNL is Hawaii’s busiest airport.
The conrac supports environmental sustainability by transporting passengers on a single shuttle to the rental car facility instead of via individual company vehicles. It is expected to receive LEED Silver certification for environmentally friendly initiatives including the installation of energy-efficient fixtures, sustainable construction practices, and stormwater management. A final phase of the project will help to return 727 parking stalls to public use from the interim conrac space in Terminal 2. The new facility is situated on 11-acres with 1.8 million square feet over five stories.
