BRISTOW GROUP COMPLETES FLIGHT USING SAF

Houston, Texas-based Bristow Group Inc. announced it has completed an offshore revenue flight using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) fully certified to Jet A1 standards. The flight was conducted from Aberdeen, Scotland, to offshore installations operated by bp as part of Bristow’s strategic relationship with Air bp.

In addition to using SAF for operational flights, Bristow has transitioned to using all electric-powered ground support vehicles at select bases as part of its efforts to significantly reduce carbon emissions. Sustainable aviation fuel is produced from such feedstocks as used cooking oils and household waste. The fuel used by Bristow is grade Jet A-1/SAF conforming to Defense Standard 91-091 and ASTM D1655 standards for aviation turbine kerosene. The blend used is 35% SAF with the SAF component providing an 80% lifecycle carbon reduction compared to the fuel it replaces. The adoption of SAF is a key component of the global aviation industry’s commitment to reducing total carbon emissions by 50% by 2050.

Bristow Group is the world’s largest provider of helicopter transportation primarily servicing offshore operations within the oil and gas sector, search and rescue, unmanned aerial vehicles, and helicopter maintenance.
