NEW HANGAR AND LAB FACILITY OPENS AT HUNTSVILLE INTERNATIONAL

Avionics software firm Avilution cut the ribbon on its new hangar-lab facility at Huntsville International Airport (HSV) in November. The new $3 million facility includes 6,000 sq ft of labs and offices as well as 7,000 sq ft of hangar space. Serial aviation entrepreneur, founder and airline transport-rated pilot Mark Spencer noted that the company’s innovative software, called eXtensible Flight System or XFS, represents a novel approach to developing avionics for both military and civilian applications. The software enables the design-build of completely optimized custom avionics with off-the-shelf components from a variety of suppliers, and the company also provides the engineering services to support its XFS products.

XFS discards what Spencer considers the outdated design of avionics and replaces it with modern software applications that enable aircraft manufacturers and integrators to design and build a modern flight deck in a fraction of the usual time. The new facility will allow the company to experiment with various sensor placements and display layouts in its testbed aircraft, a Zenith CH750, to develop new features for XFS.
