KAVP WELCOMES NEW HIGH-TAIL HANGAR

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (AVP) recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of a new high-tail aircraft hangar. The 19,000-square-foot hangar is owned by Aviation Technologies, Inc. and is labeled “Hangar #6.” The project is the latest advancement in the airport’s master plan.

Rise Construction Company completed the building of the hangar which currently stands as the sole high-tail aircraft hangar at AVP. The hangar will be able to house large-cabin aircraft including the G550 and G450. Features of the hangar include doors measuring 100 feet wide that can accommodate a 27-foot tail height, modern heating and sprinkler systems, overhead doors, and office space. According to Aviation Technologies, the hangar also provides a base for ease of access to AVP’s ATC direct route to TEB and is pre-provisioned for electric GPU. AVP is the only mid-sized airport in the region and received a $1.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation last year to extend its taxiway in an effort to serve additional passengers.
