GAYLORD REGIONAL OPENS NEW HANGAR

A new hangar at Gaylord Regional (GLR) in Gaylord, Michigan, promises to bring in lease and rental revenue for the northern lower peninsula airport near Boyne City, Petoskey, and Charlevoix. The 60’ x 80’ hangar can hold up to three or four aircraft depending on their footprints. For example, it could simultaneously hold a Lear 60, a King Air 200, and a Cessna Caravan, or up to four smaller aircraft.

The project was 90% funded by an FAA grant with 5% funded by a state grant and 5% by Otsego County. In addition to rental revenue that hangar is expected to generate a higher amount of fuel flowage fees from the additional aircraft that will use it. The hangar enables the airport to house larger aircraft than previously, and those crews and passengers will stay in local hotels, eat at restaurants, conduct business meetings and use recreational facilities in the area. The hangar might mean increased business for Northern Michigan Jet Services, which began operations almost a year ago providing maintenance services for single- and multi-engine aircraft with seven employees.
