SOUTH DAKOTA STATE BREAKS GROUND ON NEW HANGAR

South Dakota State University (SDSU) in October broke ground on a new hangar for its aviation program and is named after its biggest promoter. At 13,260 sq ft, the Alan O. Tuntland Hangar will be able to accommodate 12 owned and leased aircraft at Brookings Regional Airport (BKX) in Brookings, South Dakota. The hangar construction is expected to be complete in the spring of 2022.

Tuntland was a 1962 graduate of SDSU who passed away in October after battling cancer. In 2009 the gift of his Piper Malibu JetProp DLX enabled the SDSU Foundation to begin a productive partnership by purchasing aircraft and leasing them to the SDSU aviation program. This program has helped to reduce the cost of flight training for SDSU students.
