KSEA TO OPEN NEW INTERNATIONAL ARRIVALS FACILITY

The Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) has announced a countdown to the opening of the airport’s new International Arrivals Facility (IAF). The airport has scheduled an online reveal celebration for March 3, 2022, and has invited the public to join streaming of a behind-the-scenes look at the development of the facility. The construction of the IAF is the Port of Seattle’s largest and most complex capital project and a team has been devoted to ensuring Operational Readiness, Activation, and Transition (ORAT) as the project shifts from construction to an operational phase.

The ORAT team at SEA has received training in integrated systems of the IAF including airline and ground handler operations, passenger processing, carousels and baggage handling systems, building readiness, and security and emergency response drills. Hundreds of volunteers are expected to participate in a passenger flow simulation as part of readiness testing in the upcoming weeks followed by the IAF serving a limited number of flights in a final testing phase. SEA was recently certified as the second large hub airport in the country to earn the Skytrax 4-Star Airport Rating for modernization and improvement efforts including development of the IAF.
