ODYS AVIATION TO ACCELERATE VTOL PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT

Odys Aviation has secured $12.4 million in seed funding to support the company’s development facility and to ramp up deployment of prototype hybrid-electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft. The company is focused on improving the speed, cost, and environmental impact of regional mobility. The recent seed funding round included investment from Giant Ventures, Soma Capital, 11.2 Capital, Countdown Capital, and funding from Nikhil Goel and Kyle Vogt.

As a Y Combinator S21 company that has raised $13.7 million in total funding, Odys Aviation plans to utilize flap-based lifting technology for their VTOL aircraft to serve regional transportation between cities. According to Odys Aviation, the company’s aircraft will reduce CO2 by up to 80 percent, carry nine passengers, cruise at 30,000 feet, and have a maximum speed of 345 mph with a 1,000-mile range. The company expects type certification in 2026 with plans for a one-passenger prototype to be developed this year.
