BTR REPORTS 2021 PASSENGER INCREASE

The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport (BTR) reported a 55 percent increase in passenger traffic in 2021 compared to 2020. According to the airport, 562,384 people traveled through BTR last year. The airport was the second largest in the state by passenger volume in 2021.

TSA counts indicated the airport reached 70 percent of 2019 passenger numbers when compared to the national average comparison of 68.8 percent. The percentage of seats filled at BTR has remained around an 80 percent load factor, but airline seating capacity is not quite back to 2019 levels. American Airlines and United Airlines have scheduled additional capacity for BTR in the second quarter depending on demand while Delta has replaced three regional jets with Boeing 717s. Delta plans to add a fourth Boeing 717 next month. BTR provides $1.1 billion of annual economic impact and supports 4500 jobs in the Baton Rouge area.
