HONEYWELL HTS7500 TO POWER DEFIANT X HELICOPTER

Honeywell’s new HTS7500 turboshaft engine has been selected to power the Lockheed Martin Sikorsky-Boeing DEFIANT X ® helicopter. The HTS7500 is Honeywell’s newest and most technologically advanced model of the company’s military engines. According to Honeywell, the engine is designed to perform in challenging environments and exceed mission power and fuel consumption requirements.

The HTS7500 features a modernized control system that improves operating capabilities, ensures engine health status, and reduces life-cycle costs. The new engine is structurally similar to Honeywell’s T55 engine which will allow maintainers to utilize current tools and training to work on the HTS7500. The HTS7500 is 42% more powerful than the T55, however, and has the lowest total weight when compared to other engines in the same horsepower class. The DEFIANT X ® is slated to be the fastest and most maneuverable assault helicopter in history and is a contender in the U.S. Army’s Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) competition.
