ASE Runway Closure to Begin in May
CO – The Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) will close its runway along with taxiway connectors from May 2 through May 16. The closure is due to the need for annual airfield maintenance and repairs. All aircraft operations will be limited to mountain rescue and emergency medevac operations.
The airport anticipates reopening the runway on Monday, May 16 at 07:00 AM. Passengers with questions about impacted commercial flights should contact their respective carriers. General aviation questions can be directed to Atlantic Aviation at ASE. ASE was founded as a privately owned public-use gravel landing strip in 1946. During that period, the primary user of the airport was the Aspen Institute which led to the development of Aspen Airways. The Aspen Airport Corporation officially deeded the airport to Pitkin County in 1956 allowing it to become a publicly owned public-use airport. The airport’s terminal building constructed in 1976 was the first commercial building in the country to utilize passive solar heating.
