Illinois Valley Airport is Expanding
IL – Several new construction projects are either planned or already underway at Illinois Valley Regional (VYS) in Peru, Illinois. The projects are in response to rising demand and are intended to attract new businesses to the Peru area.
A high-priority project is extending the taxiway to the north end of the primary runway 18/36 to enhance operational safety and facilitate the ability to utilize the runway in both directions without the need for a back-taxi maneuver. This is a $2 million construction that will be 95% funded by the FAA and is expected to be finished this fall. Other projects on the docket include moving a hangar adjacent to Marquis Energy to allow for the expansion of its hangar to twice its current size. The existing hangar will be moved to another location on the field and construction of the Marquis expansion will commence later this year. Construction of five additional corporate hangars is currently underway and is scheduled for completion later this year as well.
City and airport leaders say that the airport attracts business because some businesses already in the area have told them they wouldn’t be there without it. The airport’s main runway 18/36 is 6,000” x 100′ and routinely handles business jets up to a Global Express.
