Sierra Nevada Building Large New Hangar at Dayton International

OH – Aerospace, defense, and national security firm Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) is building a 96,000 SF aircraft maintenance, repair, and modification facility at Dayton International Airport (DAY) in Dayton, Ohio. The development is a collaboration with SD Hangar Partners, who will be performing the construction and equipping of the hangar. The cost of the project will be $44 million, and the city of Dayton will be providing up to $195,000 in financial assistance to Sierra Nevada and up to $300,000 to HD Hangar Partners to help defray costs of infrastructure and site improvements.

The hangar will be one of the largest in Ohio and be able to accommodate the largest military aircraft such as the C-5 Galaxy, C-17 Globemaster, or the Boeing 747. Sierra Nevada says it expects to generate nearly 150 new jobs, and its agreement with the city stipulates that the company will make every effort to hire local people to fill those highly skilled positions. SNC performs integration and modification of technologically advanced aircraft systems such as guidance and navigation, alteration of weapons systems, remote sensing, threat detection, security, infrastructure protection, and scientific research. Since a large percentage of its business is with the military, the proximity of Dayton International to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base was a big factor in SNC’s decision to bring the project to the city.
