Mesquite Airport Continues Growth and Expansion
TX – Mesquite Metro Airport (HQZ) in Mesquite, Texas, has seen growth of nearly 50% over the past few years. Aircraft operations had been averaging about 65,000 per year when they increased to 85,000 in 2020 and then broke that record with 100,000 operations in 2021. The airport is on track to exceed that number yet again in 2022. In response to increased traffic and demand for space, the airport will build a $2.2 million, 15,000 SF hangar; it expects to be completed by early 2023. The hangar will be 100′ x 150′ and have a door height of 28 feet in addition to other amenities. There are currently 166 hangars housing 215 aircraft on the field, and the new hangar will be able to accommodate up to five more.
Like many airports around the country, HQZ is completely self-sustaining through fuel sales and hangar leases and is continually evaluating future expansion projects. The airport currently supports an annual payroll of $3.2 million through 116 jobs and generates a total of $8.3 million in economic impact for the City of Mesquite.
