Air Taxis in LA for the 2028 Olympics
CA – Los Angeles transportation officials expect drone-like electric air taxis to be operational in time for the 2028 Summer Olympics or sooner. Several companies are scouting out parking lots and high-rise buildings to develop vertiports, allowing for the new technology of air taxis and air mobility to come to fruition. Eric Garcetti, the mayor of Los Angeles, has launched a nonprofit, Urban Movements Lab, to help accelerate the new air mobility technologies. They are working with Archer, Hyundai, and other groups to help them with regulations surrounding the future airspace.
While there have been serious considerations from stakeholders and entities regarding rolling out air taxis, concerns are equally present about the project. People have continuously put up questions about the safety of air taxis. Researchers are also studying the impact of air taxis on the quality of life.
According to the CEO of Archer Aviation, in the future, people can expect to travel from Pasadena to LAX Airport on air taxis. Normally this drive would take 60 to 90 minutes, and on an air taxi, this would take five to ten minutes. He also believes that the routes of air taxis will be pre-determined, and these vehicles can trail each other on very specific routes. It will almost be like vehicles moving in an imaginary tube.
