South Carolina Airport Thriving with General Aviation
SC – Rock Hill York County Airport (UZA) in Rock Hill, South Carolina, is a full-service general aviation reliever facility in the Charlotte, North Carolina, region that services all segments of civilian aviation except scheduled commercial flights. Catering to businesses and corporate flight departments, private pilots, and flight schools, UZA has seen skyrocketing demand and phenomenal growth since 2012, with an increase in annual economic activity from $6.5 million to $40.5 million during that interval. The airport currently supports 224 direct jobs generating $10.2 million in payrolls, and during the period from July 2021 to June 2022, the airport set a fuel-flowage record with 269,509 gallons in Jet-A sales.
Airport management says there are currently over 100 aircraft on the waiting list for hangar space, and they are on pace to become the first airport in South Carolina to surpass 200 based aircraft. To meet that demand, the airport is planning to build at least 50 additional hangars including larger facilities to accommodate mid- to-large-cabin business aircraft. The airport says businesses contemplating a move or expansion to the Charlotte or Rock Hill areas always ask about the proximity of the airport because they know they will be using it for business travel at some point.
