Runway Upgrades Finished Ahead of Schedule at Vidalia Regional
GA – The runway at Vidalia Regional Airport (VDI) in Vidalia, Georgia, had needed repairs for several years due to cracks in some of its concrete panels. Airport management originally applied for funding to upgrade the runway because of growing demand, and $2.2 million was awarded last year through the American Rescue Plan. The funds were used primarily to replace cracked concrete panels, extending the life of the runway and enabling it to accommodate larger and heavier business jets.
The airport happily announced that the project was completed more than a month ahead of schedule and are welcoming business jet traffic back for services. Improvements to the airport will continue as more than $7 million in additional funding is expected through federal and local grants over the next several years. Those funds will be used to complete a new master plan as well as build up to 12 new hangars. The short-term goal of the runway upgrade and expansion plans is to attract new businesses to the area, benefiting local and regional economies. Stimulating economic development will also bring higher revenue to the airport and enable additional improvements and even further growth.
