MagniX Helping Zero-Emission Flight Efforts with Hydrogen Fuel Cells Development in WA

WA – MagniX, based out of Everett, Washington, recently announced at the NBAA-BACE 2022 event their plans to develop hydrogen fuel cells. MagniX is an established developer of electric and hybrid-electric propulsion systems for aircraft and is now planning to place efforts into making hydrogen fuel cells a viable option. Sustainability has become a focal point for the aviation industry, and hydrogen fuel cells could be an answer to achieving zero emissions. Their research and development on previous projects have proven to be successful, as their electric propulsion units have helped fly several aircraft, including a successful flight of Eviation’s all-electric Alice commuter airplane.

This news does not come as a surprise, as just last year, the company announced a partnership with AeroTec, Universal Hydrogen, and Plug Power to build a testing and service center at the Grant County International Airport in Mores Lake, Washington. MagniX plans to use this facility to transform eight regional airliner Dash 8 aircraft into hydrogen-powered aircraft, with the first scheduled flight set to take place by the end of the year. MagniX CEO Nuno Taborda commented on its involvement in hydrogen research and development, saying the company is looking to contribute to the future of sustainable aviation by utilizing its knowledge and experience to help make hydrogen-powered aircraft a reality.
