Colorado Air & Space Port (KCFO) Working to Keep it Aviation Friendly

CO – Spencer Mamber of BA Group Advisors enjoyed an interview with Jeff Kloska and William Flowers, the Director and Deputy Directors at KCFO. Both directors are very enthusiastic about the airport’s future.

Jeff is a graduate of Colorado’s Metro State University. Before taking on his responsibilities at KCFO, he worked in the Aviation Departments for the City of Dallas, at Dallas Love, and at Meacham International for the City of Fort Worth. At Dallas Love, his workload was equally divided between General Aviation and Airline operations. He also led the Texas Airports Council as its past President. Jeff started the director’s job in January 2022.

William graduated from Henderson State, in Arkansas, and has a master’s from Kansas State University. William has a diverse airport operations history in Houston, Texas, and Colorado Springs. William is excited about getting into airport operations versus airline operations. He, too, joined the KCFO team in January 2022.

In terms of what is in KCFO’s future, there will be a new permitter fence going up in 2023, with typical gate card entry points. Thanks to this investment, the airport’s tenants will enjoy a new level of airport security and safety. What I also found interesting; it makes KCFO more attractive to the corporate jet community. Many corporate operators cannot operate from an airport without a secure perimeter.

Port Colorado is a privately owned, state-of-the-art sustainable master-planned project that enjoys a close association with the airport and Adams County. Their 6,000 acres offer tremendous opportunities for warehouse operations and future distribution needs. Included in the future is the expansion of Manila Road and its exit from I-70. This will provide a more direct route to the airport and surrounding businesses. It’s an “Inland Port” that will have aircraft and trucks, versus sailing ships, carrying out commerce.

On the light airplane side, KCFO continues to host the EAA Young Eagle Flights, has a wide variety of personal aircraft based there, several aircraft maintenance facilities, and flight training schools.

The terminals’ Mi Tierra restaurant is a great place to enjoy some fresh Mexican food, with its always friendly service.

Jeff and William clearly stated that as the airport expands, they want it to be pilot friendly for all elements of the flying community.

There’s been competition between KCFO and KDIA. The Directors want everyone to know that they want an environment that supports both airports’ future success.
