Mid-Atlantic Air Museum WWII Weekend 2023
PA – If you love historical aircraft, then the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum’s World War II Weekend is a must-see event. This Gathering of Warbirds extravaganza occurs every year on the first weekend in June, with 2023 marking the 32nd annual gathering.
The Mid-Atlantic Air Museum, incorporated in 1980, was organized not only to celebrate aviation but to focus on the Mid-Atlantic region’s contributions to the history and development of aviation. Museum collections are cared for according to established museum practices that seek to have historically accurate restorations with limited flying to preserve these living pieces of the past. Reaching beyond the fuselage and runway, exhibits look to incorporate items from that era to enhance the experience and provide context for the period.
The Reading Regional Airport gates open at 8:30 am each day of June 2-4, 2023. Friday and Saturday, the admission gates close at 5:30, and the Sunday show ends at 5:00 pm. Dinner and dance are followed by the Friday and Saturday shows; tickets for these two events are sold in advance.
Plan to see WWII aviation demonstrations daily, veteran special guests and presentations, more than 1,700 WWII military and civilian reenactors representing many nations, encampments, battle reenactments, fashion shows based on 1944 clothing, a Main Street recreation, and more.
Expect the stars of the weekend to be the airplanes with excitement brewing for Fifi, the USAAF Boeing B-29 Superfortress, and Diamond LIL, the USAAF Consolidated B-24 Liberator. These aren’t the only two birds taking to the air, with more bombers, trainers, fighters, transport, liaison, and civilian aircraft on the ground and in the air doing demonstrations.
Suppose you can make this year’s celebration. In that case, you’re in for a treat as it’s also the City of Reading’s Bicenterquasquigenary observation weekend – or the 275th anniversary – and a military convoy will run from the Reading Regional Airport to Penn Square on Friday, June 2, 2023, from roughly 11:30 to 1:30.
No time for this year’s airshow? Mark your calendars for next year’s event, which is scheduled for June 7-8-9, 2024.
