Discover an Alaska Private Airpark with Stunning and Awe-Inspiring Natural Surroundings

AK – Wasilla and Palmer are two unique neighboring cities situated in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley in Alaska. These towns are nestled in the southwestern part of the state, just 45 miles north of Anchorage, the most populous city in Alaska. Wolf Lake Airport (4AK6) is between these cities, one of the state’s many picturesque fly-in communities.

Wasilla is the biggest of the two cities in terms of population and area and is the seat of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. The city gained recognition nationally when Sarah Palin, the 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidate and former Alaska Governor, called the area home. It is known for its beautiful wilderness surroundings, with the nearby Chugach Mountains and Knik River providing opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and boating.

Long Daylight Hours During Summer

The city is a true gem of Alaska and has a comparatively mild climate for what is otherwise cold-soaked Alaska, with its signature frigid winters and comfortable summers. As would be expected throughout Alaska, it’s also known for its long daylight hours during the summer months. Wasilla has dozens of retail stores, restaurants, and services, making it a commercial hub for the surrounding area.

Palmer, on the other hand, is located about 12 miles northeast of Wasilla and is somewhat smaller in terms of population density. It was established in 1935 as a farming community. The city has an agricultural heritage and is frequently called “Alaska’s Year-Round Playground,” thanks to its many recreational opportunities.

Picturesque Farmland

The Alaska State Fair, one of the state’s biggest yearly events, is held in Palmer every August. It features agriculture, arts and crafts, and entertainment, drawing visitors from Alaska and across the country. Palmer is hemmed in by picturesque farmland and offers breathtaking views of the Chugach and Talkeetna Mountain ranges.

The city hosts various events and festivals throughout the year, celebrating its agricultural history and local culture. Both Wasilla and Palmer make up the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, a region known for its natural beauty, outdoor activities, and a slower pace of life – compared to the busy and bustling Anchorage. Combined, these cities provide residents and visitors with access to the wild beauty of Alaska, a vibrant cultural scene, and opportunities to experience The Last Frontier in its rawest of forms.

An Immediate Sense of Community

In rugged Alaska, aviation and flying in all its forms is an essential way of life. Wolf Lake Airport is Tucked between the iconic cities of Wasilla and Palmer in the Chugach and Talkeetna Mountains. It is home to a hidden and very desirable community of resident flyers. This Alaskan airport boasts fly-in homes and is a convenient fuel stop for aircraft needing a mid-journey top-off.

Landing at Wolf Lake Airport on its paved 3,800-foot runway gives an immediate sense of a community that appreciates the freedom of flying. It reminds flyers that rugged flying and aviation, in general, are truly a way of life in Alaska. Best of all, a lake launch and a 24-hour fuel station exist. There are residential lots to choose from if you plan to build your dream Alaskan fly-in homestead. The community hosts numerous events year-round and offers aviators, novices, and experienced alike a safe environment to drop in when needed.

This private residential and commercial landing facility is owned and operated by D.E. Northfork LLC.
