AZ: What is it Like to Fly an Airplane that has Been Collecting Dust for Several Years? The Region’s Arid Climate - The Southwestern United States is home to several seriously big airplane storage areas that house thousands of retired, no longer in service aircraft. These massive stretches of desert are often referred to as “boneyards.”
