About Abel Island
Abel Island fly-in was founded in 1957. It was wholly owned by the Abel family, serving as a private airstrip for the family. Eventually, the family leased acreage for people to build homes on the island and around the grass runway. There are currently just under 100 homes in the community, with most homeowners being either pilots, former pilots, or those who just love aviation. The airpark was sold off some years ago to new owners.
