ALASKA, CALIFORNIA, AND HAWAII AIRPORTS AWARDED IN LATEST ROUND OF FAA AIP GRANTS

The FAA has awarded another round of grants as part of its Airport Improvement Program. Airport infrastructure grants totaling over $479 million have been awarded to 123 projects as part of the program. The recent grants include funding for projects that support job creation, increased safety and accessibility, and improved sustainability.

The Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole, Kailua-Kona in Hawaii received an infrastructure investment of $2.2 million to remove and replace 15,000 feet of fencing around the airport that has corroded as a result of impacts from the surrounding ocean. A grant focused on job creation awarded $15.2 million to the Ontario International Airport in California to help reconstruct 832,000-square-feet of taxiways and connectors. The reconstruction project is intended to promote a safe traffic flow, new construction jobs, and permanent job growth at the airport as it experiences rising demand. The Warren “Bud” Woods Palmer Municipal Airport in Palmer, Alaska received $520,833 to increase sustainability and resilience through the improvement of airfield drainage and erosion control systems.
