ARKANSAS AIRPORT BUILDING NEW HANGAR
Springdale Municipal Airport (ASG) in Springdale, Arkansas, earlier this year announced it had received a commitment from the city council to construct a new 10,000 square foot hangar along with an apron and taxiway. The project will total $700,000, with $400,000 coming from the state Division of Aeronautics, $131,000 from the city, and the rest from the city’s unreserved funds unless additional grants are secured.
Springdale is anticipating revenues of $2,700 per month or $32,400 per year when the hangar is fully leased. The additional aircraft to be housed will also increase the approximate $50,000 per year the city earns on fuel flowage tax revenue. This project will add to the present total of 95 hangar spaces owned by the airport. Lease rates for the spots range from $74 to $2,600 per month depending on the type of hangar, aircraft footprint, and amenities in the various hangars. There are currently 125 aircraft based at ASG and a waitlist of 25 persons to lease hangar space. The city also earns revenue from other businesses on the airport such as the restaurant, charter operators, and aircraft maintenance and inspection shops.
