Arkansas Airport on Cusp of Major Growth
AR – Pocahontas Municipal Airport (M70) in Pocahontas, Arkansas, had languished for years, experiencing no growth and very little funding to expand, but that appears to have changed. In response to exponential growth in fuel sales and traffic over the past decade, the airport is building new hangars to accommodate current and future-based aircraft. The four new hangars will be 80′ wide by 60′ deep box hangars with 70′ hydraulic doors. The hangars are already leased and there is a waiting list for additional hangar space.
Since 2010, aircraft operations have increased by 164% and fuel sales have exploded by 1,400%. With money now available, airport management and community leaders are optimistic and view this as the start of being able to embark on a series of projects to expand the capabilities of the airport even further. In addition to building more hangars, another project high on the priority list is lengthening the runway from its present 4,000 feet to 5,000 feet. That additional thousand feet would enable most business aircraft to land and depart, increasing opportunities for attracting businesses and other activities and thereby enhancing the economic impact of the airport and its downstream benefits to the community.
