BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT CONVEYS ACREAGE TO COLORADO CITY AIRPORT

In a move to bolster the modernization and safety of the Colorado City Airport, the Bureau of Land Management has conveyed 141 acres of adjacent public land to the Town of Colorado City for airport use purposes. Situated on the Arizona and Utah border, the airport serves passengers traveling to the area to visit popular attractions including the Grand Canyon and Zion National Park. The transfer of land enables Colorado City to comply with Federal Aviation Administration safety and design requirements.

The airport has almost doubled in size with the additional acreage. Fly-over and airport safety zones are located within the newly conveyed land and Colorado City will now be able to maintain compatible land use to support the safety of the surrounding airspace. After the Town of Colorado City applied for a grant from the FAA to control adjacent land, the Bureau of Land Management and the FAA both approved the conveyance of public land. The U.S. Department of Justice also approved conveyance of the land which is an authority pursuant to the Airport and Airway Improvement Act of 1982.
