BZN GA Community Pilot Receives Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award
MT – Greg Mecklenburg has recently been awarded the FAA’s Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award. The award is considered the most prestigious award issued by the FAA to pilots who are certified under 14 CFR Part 61. Aviators must have a record of safety and professionalism with 50 or more years of civil and military piloting experience or 50 or more years of combined experience in both piloting and aircraft operations.
Mecklenburg completed his first solo in 1968 in a Cessna 150 at what is now the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport. He has logged more than 22,000 flight hours during his 54 years of flying. Mecklenburg is also the holder of 14 soaring records as a glider pilot in Montana and has a patent for a glider launch truck. Mecklenburg was awarded by a Montana FAA Safety Program Manager at a Gallatin Airport Authority board meeting. The award is named in honor of Orville and Wilbur Wright.
