EAA AirVenture Set to Begin End of July 2023
USA – Aviation enthusiasts in the Midwest Great Plains region may get a special treat at the end of this month if they look up. The EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023 runs from July 24 through July 30th and more than 10,000 aircraft are expected to converge in this Wisconsin city.
The EAA, or the Experimental Aircraft Association, was founded in 1953 by Paul H. Poberezny. Originally, the association started off as a small group of people assembling planes at home. These individuals decided to help other would-be builders and started an experimental aviation revolution. The organization’s first fly-in was held in Milwaukee and drew 21 aircraft and about 150 people. In 1969 the decision was made to move what was now a museum and headquarters to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where the annual fly-in now hosts roughly 650,000 people and around 10,000 aircraft – making it the largest airshow in the world.
The more than 1,600 acres and 26 venues give aviation enthusiasts more than they can take in during the one-week event. The grounds are divided into different areas of interest, with notable exhibits and aircraft displayed in Warbirds, the Homebuilders, Vintage Aircraft, and Ultralight areas. There is also a zone dedicated to younger attendees, multiple forums, exhibit halls, the museum, and the highly-anticipated airshow.
Attendees this year can look forward to a focus on modern military aircraft with multiple representations in the form of jets and helicopters. The recently restored Lockheed C-121A Constellation, or the Connie as she’s affectionately known, will be making an appearance. An honor flight will take Vietnam veterans from Oshkosh to Washington, D.C., on July 28th, and they’ll be greeted on the grounds upon their return. You can also count on a phenomenal airshow each day, with night performances slated for Wednesday, July 26th, and Saturday, July 29th.
There will be a lot more happening in the air and on the grounds. If you can’t make it to EAA AirVenture 2023, keep those eyes to the skies, you never know what might be flying overhead. And, as a special treat, APN will be featuring daily updates from the EAA grounds. Stay tuned to our social media on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram to see what’s happening.
