JAC Runway Reconstruction to Prompt 78-Day Closure
WY- The runway at Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) will be closed from April 11 through June 28 for full runway reconstruction. The runway has not been fully reconstructed since the 1970s. The asphalt runway has been rehabbed four times since its original construction.
The airport anticipates the 78-day runway closure will be completed efficiently with minimal impact creation and will be conducted in an environmentally friendly manner. With 50 years of use, the runway at JAC will now be fully reconstructed with construction crews working around the clock. The reconstruction is a three-phase project and engineers estimate 90 to 95 percent of the current material will be used for reconstruction which will aid in reducing truck trips. The first phase of the project targeted preliminary prep work, the second phase will focus on reconstruction, and the third phase will begin this July to complete grooving and striping. During the second phase, all flight operations will cease except for operations at The National Forest Service Helitack Base. Commercial air service to JAC is expected to resume on June 28, 2022.
