LICENSE PLATE CAMPAIGN SUCCEEDS IN IDAHO

After the threat of termination due to a 2020 legislative increase in the required number of specialty license plates, Idaho aviation pilots and enthusiasts mobilized and were able to surpass the 2,000-plate threshold by July 1. By mid-June, a total of 2,063 “Fly Idaho” plates were registered and people were continuing to sign up.

James E. Davies, President of the Idaho Aviation Foundation, said, “I cannot tell you how grateful we, on the IAF Board of Directors, are for the overwhelming response to the appeal.” He continued, “The battle, however, is not over. We have to maintain 2,000+ plates annually or the program will be shut down.”

In addition to identifying pilots and supporters of aviation in Idaho, the license plate program provides about $20,000 per year that is used for grants to pay for general aviation support programs as well as airfield facility maintenance and improvements.
