Louisiana Tech Partners with United’s Pilot Career Development Program
LA – The Louisiana Tech University’s Department of Professional Aviation has a storied history going back to its establishment in 1967. The department is accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI), offering two 4-year degrees as well as a FAA Part 141 flight school, and a new partnership with United Airlines’ Aviate program will serve to greatly enhance their national reputation and prestige. The Aviate Pilot Career Development Program gives aspiring commercial airline pilots access to one-on-one guidance with a United mentor as well as to United’s flight simulators and training courses. Aviate maintains partnerships with United’s regional carriers Air Wisconsin, CommuteAir, Go Jet, and Mesa, and students who are accepted into the program will learn basic skills at Tech and then transition to one of the partners. The guidance provided by a student’s pilot partner is invaluable in learning the ropes of the industry as well as developing a network of colleagues to help navigate the pathway to a career with United.
Most coursework will be taught at Davison Hall on the main campus of Louisiana Tech in Ruston while flight training will be conducted at the University’s Flight Operations Center at nearby Ruston Regional Airport (RSN). In 2017 the school secured a new fleet of 12 Cessna 172 Skyhawks and Piper PA-28R Arrows, and conducts ground, simulator, and flight training year-round.
