MAJOR TERMINAL UPGRADES COMING TO ABQ

The City of Albuquerque and the Sunport (ABQ) announced major terminal infrastructure upgrades scheduled to improve safety, security, and concession offerings at ABQ. Construction will begin next January and the project is estimated to cost $85 million. The upgrades will be funded by the CABQ Department of Aviation and federal funding.

The terminal upgrade project will be split into three components including relocation of the TSA screening checkpoint, modernization of infrastructure elements, and improved dining and retail opportunities. ABQ expects the relocation of the TSA checkpoint to create a 24% increase in the airport’s post-security footprint which will grant additional amenities to travelers. The airport selected FBT Architects through an RFP process and the city is currently seeking proposals for a Construction Manager At Risk for pre-construction and construction services. ABQ anticipates it will be able to expand the airport’s audience base through outreach events to retailers and restaurants as part of the terminal redevelopment efforts.
