MILLION AIR COMMENCES SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVES

In October FBO service provider Million Air announced it was embarking on a network-wide strategy to control, reduce, and offset its carbon emissions with the goal of achieving net-zero at all locations by the end of 2023. The Houston, Texas-based chain said its efforts will consist of two complementary paths: One will be to provide sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at its FBO bases, and it will also seek and implement ways to reduce carbon at its own facilities as well.

Each truckload of about 8,000 gallons of SAF provides a 22-metric ton reduction in carbon emissions over its lifecycle and using SAF is the most effective way to reduce a flight’s carbon footprint. Million Air intends to expand its offering of SAF at critical locations across its network as practicable as production capacity and availability will allow.

Within the FBO bases, sustainability measures include installation of solar panels, converting to natural gas, incorporating natural and 100% LED lighting, recycling of refuse, adding electric vehicle charging stations, running biodiesel in ground service equipment, and replacing plastic and Styrofoam with recyclable paper cups. Million Air will also invest in carbon offsets through high-quality carbon reduction and avoidance projects around the world. The company anticipates that the first location to achieve carbon net-zero will be White Plains, followed by Burbank.
