Mississippi Airport Needs More Hangar Space

MS – The Natchez-Adams County Airport/Hardy-Anders Field (HEZ) in Natchez, Mississippi, has no hangar space available and, as a result, is forced to turn away customers wishing to hangar their aircraft and add them to the waiting list. With 24-based aircraft on the field and plenty of room to expand, airport management is seeking funds to build new hangars to accommodate the demand. One source may be a loan through the Mississippi Development Authority to design and build more hangars. However, the application process is in the early stages, and any hangar construction lies months in the future. What may happen sooner is a positive response from the Authority regarding an air service grant application that, if approved, will provide up to $2.5 million with no local match required. Those funds would be used to facilitate bringing commercial air service to Natchez. The city, county, and airport board have been in discussions with Southern Airways. Although no agreement is yet in place, officials are optimistic that if the grant is successful, it will generate sufficient interest among other commercial air carriers to look at Natchez for routes.
