Modern Aviation to Acquire Three Sacramento FBOs

Modern Aviation has signed an agreement to acquire three Sacramento, California, FBO operations currently owned by Superior Aviation Company. The three entities Modern will acquire include Capitol Jet Center at Sacramento International Airport (SMF), Mather Jet Center at Mather Airport (MHR), and Executive Jet Center at Sacramento Executive Airport (SAC). Modern expects the deal to close in the second quarter or early third quarter pending regulatory review and approval.

Superior Aviation Company was founded in 1944 and operated as Patterson Aviation Company at SAC. The company expanded to three bases to become the largest independent FBO chain in California. Modern Aviation has grown rapidly since 2018 to nine locations including two in New York, awaiting airport approval. The three locations in Sacramento will bring the total to twelve. Modern Aviation’s strategy is to acquire and develop FBOs in growth markets and to do so has secured the support of Tiger Infrastructure Partners, a private infrastructure equity fund. The company is actively engaged in pursuing further FBO acquisitions as well as development opportunities in the Caribbean and North America.
