New Hangar Facility Coming to Georgia Airport
GA – Southwest Georgia Regional Airport (ABY) in Albany is building a four-hangar complex representing one of the airport’s newest upgrades. The $10 million project is being financed in part by funds received via the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act during the pandemic. Each hangar will be 110’ wide x 110’ deep with 12,100 SF for aircraft parking as well as internal office suites. The hangars are intended to service mid-size business aircraft, a large number of which cater to hunters arriving for Georgia’s famous quail hunting season during the fall and winter months.
ABY is the state’s second-largest cargo airport behind Atlanta and serves as a hub for United Parcel Service (UPS). In fact, UPS is the airport’s largest tenant and provides 50 jobs to the local economy. According to airnav.com, the airport supports nearly 50 operations per day with about 80% of those being general aviation (GA), including UPS and quail season travelers.
