New Hangars Will Ease the Crunch at North Carolina Airport
NC – A new aircraft hangar construction project will help alleviate some of the strong demand for hangar space at Moore County Airport (SOP) in Pinehurst/Southern Pines, North Carolina. Ground was broken in May for the development, which will include two buildings containing five 3,600 SF box hangars, twelve T-hangars, and storage and restroom facilities.
The 60′ x 60′ box hangars can accommodate a single mid-size business jet or up to three single-engine aircraft, so the entire project may be able to house up to 25 of the 40 aircraft currently on the waiting list. The hangars are scheduled to be finished in early 2023, and the $7 million project may represent the first of three such hangar expansions slated in the airport’s master plan, provided additional funding is secured. The site prep and infrastructure for this project were funded by a State Transportation Infrastructure grant and the hangar construction is being funded directly by the Moore County Airport.
