NEW MRO FACILITY AT SMYRNA AIRPORT
Stevens Aerospace and Defense Systems is building a new Maintenance & Repair facility at the Smyrna Airport (MQY) in Smyrna, Tennessee. The new facility will consist of 57,000 square feet of operational space followed in a second phase by a 40,000 square foot hangar. The facility is slated to be ready to begin operations by mid-2022.
Stevens has operated in the Nashville area for almost 40 years, and just last year moved to a temporary facility in Smyrna. Stevens management felt that the Smyrna Airport was more suited to their needs because MQY provides all the operational features and amenities of a larger airport but with much less congestion as well as room for further expansion. In addition, many of Stevens’ employees live closer to Smyrna, thus reducing their daily commute time. The company also believes airport management has done a good job of attracting aviation businesses and understands that the airport is a key part of the overall economic health of the region.
