PA: Have you heard of Nemacolin Airport (PA88) in Farmington, Pennsylvania? Nemacolin Airport was once known as the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort but has since been shortened to just Nemacolin. It was started by Willard F. Rockwell in 1949 with the purchase of 60 acres of forest. 1968, he purchased more land and opened the Nemacolin Trails Hunting Reserve. The property did well for a while, but by 1987, the Nemacolin Trails Hunting Reserve had entered bankruptcy. In the throws of financial disaster, Joe Hardy emerged to be the property’s savior. Joe’s initial desire was to purchase land near a lake or stream so that his daughter, Maggie, could fish, which happened to be her preferred pastime. Instead, he saw an unrealized opportunity in the hunting lodge and bid on the property.
