NUAIR RECEIVES AUTHORIZATION TO FLY UAS BVLOS IN NY DRONE CORRIDOR
The FAA has granted authority to the New York UAS Test Site and NUAIR (Northeast UAS Airspace Integration Research Alliance) to fly unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) across 35 miles of airspace. The airspace is within New York’s 50-mile drone corridor. According to NUAIR, the authorization will allow the company to further the development of commercial drone operations and will help to attract companies to Central New York and the Mohawk Valley area.
NUAIR is a nonprofit dedicated to safe integration of UAS into the national airspace and has conducted more than 3,800 UAS test flights at the New York UAS Test Site. The company manages operations at Griffiss International Airport (RME) and the UAS corridor between Rome and Syracuse, New York. Ground-based surveillance systems have been installed throughout the UAS corridor and NUAIR will utilize these systems along with the deployment of visual observers to monitor air traffic.
