PASSENGER INCREASES HELP KILG TO GAIN PRIMARY CSA STATUS

The Wilmington-New Castle Airport (ILG) has recently surpassed 10,000 enplanements this year allowing the airport to become eligible for additional federal funding. Beginning in the Federal Fiscal Year 2023, ILG will officially be designated as a Primary Commercial Service Airport (CSA). The airport had previously been designated a General Aviation Reliever Airport.

The upgraded designation will increase ILG’s minimum annual federal entitlement to $1 million. The airport was previously entitled to $150,000 on an annual basis, but as a CSA, ILG can continue earning entitlement funding as enplanements increase. The annual maximum is $26 million per airport. ILG also receives revenue from the FAA’s Passenger Facility Charge program which allows the airport to collect up to $1.3 million until 2024 with each passenger boarding earning the airport $4.39. According to the Delaware River Bay Authority, ILG is the only airport in Delaware to be classified as a primary CSA.
