PORTLAND INTERNATIONAL JETPORT PRIMARY RUNWAY TO CLOSE FOR REHABILITATION PROJECT THIS SPRING

The primary runway at the Portland International Jetport (KPWM) will be closed for 56 days this spring for rehabilitation. The closure is scheduled as a once in 15-year period rehabilitation during April 18-June 13 of this year. Air traffic will utilize the airport’s secondary north-south runway during this time.

The closure and subsequent redirection of air traffic will significantly impact activity over Portland, South Portland, Scarborough, and Westbrook. For 28 days of the closure from May 16-June 13, the airport will be closed to fixed-wing traffic from 10:30 PM to 5:45 AM in order to complete rehabilitation of the runway intersection. The $13.7 million project has been funded by the FAA, State of Maine, and the Jetport. According to Paul Bradbury, Airport Director at the Portland International Jetport, the rehabilitation project is critical to ensure the airport’s ability to serve air transportation needs for the next 15 to 20 years.
