PUBLIC INVITED TO COMMENT ON ADDRESSING RISING AVIATION DEMAND IN WASHINGTON STATE

The Commercial Aviation Coordinating Commission (CACC) in Washington state has invited the public to participate in an open house addressing rising aviation demand in the region and the subsequent need to expand commercial aviation capacity. The CACC was created by the Washington State Legislature to provide recommendations for a new commercial service airport to alleviate traffic at the state’s existing facilities. The virtual open house will be available through October 3 and Washington residents are encouraged to submit input that will help guide the CACC’s selection process.

The CACC has been directed to complete three phases of work in order to ensure the state’s ability to support future commercial, air cargo, and general aviation activity. The first phase included the development of a list of six preliminary airports with potential for expansion including Ed Carlson Memorial Field, Tacoma Narrows Airport, Sanderson Field Airport, Paine Field, Bremerton National Airport, and Arlington Municipal Airport. The second phase of work will present a refined list of two airport options and the third phase will require the CACC to provide a final recommendation of one airport to the Washington State Legislature by February 15, 2023.
